Do you keep your promise? James Serengia

Are you a reliable person? Can others really count on you?

“What kind of a man would you like to marry?” Pose this question to any lady and almost all of them will tell you, “I want to marry a responsible and reliable man.” Well, even though we don’t often say it, but we men want responsible women too. I mean, who doesn’t want to stay around a responsible and reliable person –someone you can really count on?

Undoubtedly, being a responsible and reliable person is one of the most precious virtues one can possess, not only in a marriage relationship but also in all other forms of relationships.

Now, as essential as being a responsible and reliable person is, it is surprising that this is the most neglected virtue today. In my generation, it is becoming increasingly harder to find responsible and reliable people.

Who is this responsible and reliable person? It is someone who doesn’t take a backseat and just watch as things go wrong. Instead, he takes personal initiative to do anything upon his power to fix all that he can. For example, a responsible and reliable wife will not sit with other women, gossiping for hours, while the house needs to be cleaned or her children need to eat. A responsible and reliable husband will not sit in front of the TV for six hours watching soaps.

A responsible and reliable person is someone you can count on. He keeps his word at whatever cost. If he says he will do something, you don’t need to have a backup plan, just in case, he lets you down. When you schedule a meeting with this person say at 4pm, he doesn’t come at 4:30pm like many people do. This person values your time, and he actually knows that keeping time is respecting someone else’s time.

Today I challenge us to cultivate this invaluable virtue. Let’s decide to be responsible and reliable people to everyone we get a chance to interact with. If we can do that, I promise, we’ll be amazed at the difference that can have in our relationships and our lives.
